Why this blog?

When I attended the Functional Programming and Parallel Development talks at Microsoft Tech-Ed Africa 2010, two long lost neurons were sparking, awakening a part of my brain that had been forgotten for a long time. A part that reminded me of my engineering background, of coding in assembley, of designing hardware architectures, of knowing the difference between Von Neumann architecture and Harvard architecture and RISC and CISC, of contemplating queuing theory and conjuring up mathematical models for routing algorithms during my masters degree. It reminded that I once understood partial differential equations, fourier integrals, bessel functions and jacobians. Unfortunately it could no longer explain these concepts to me because this part of my brain has since turned into mush.

It may have been envy, but more likely awe for the presenters that planted a seed in this mush. I need to water this seed for some reason which I can't quite grasp as I start this blog. Q.E.D, this blog will be a record of my journey to understand two things: Functional Programming and Parallel Programming, especially, but not always, using the .NET languages F# and C#.
